bbPress Support Forum

bbPress Support Forum plugin turns a standard bbPress installation into a proper support ticket system. Instead of a flat list of topics where nothing has a status and nobody knows what’s been dealt with, every topic becomes a ticket with an issue tag, a state, and an owner who gets notified the moment it’s posted.

From topics to tickets

bbPress on its own is a discussion forum. That’s fine for a community, but it falls apart the moment you try to run customer support through it. There’s no way to mark a topic as resolved, no way to categorise what kind of problem it is, and no way for your team to see at a glance which threads still need attention.

This plugin adds that layer. Each topic gets a Ticket Issue tag and a Ticket State label, both of which you define yourself and both of which display on the front end where customers and staff can see them. Set a default state so every new ticket opens in the same place — Open, New, Awaiting Reply, whatever fits your workflow — and change it as the ticket moves through your process.

Style the ticket status labels

Open and closed ticket icons are fully styleable from the admin panel. For each state you control icon size, colour, hover colour, padding on all four sides, background colour, background hover colour, and border style, width and colour. The defaults use a clear orange background with white text, but nothing stops you matching the labels exactly to your theme.

Because the labels are visual and colour-coded, a customer scanning a forum index can tell immediately which threads are resolved and which are still live — without opening a single one.

Email notifications that actually fit your workflow

The Emails tab handles two separate notification types, each with its own template.

New Ticket Notification fires when a customer posts a ticket. You set one or more recipient addresses, comma separated, and write a custom subject line and email body. The body supports shortcode tags that pull in real ticket data: [forum], [topic], [topic_content], [issue], [username], [user_email], [first_name], [last_name] and [display_name]. The content is edited in a full WordPress visual editor, so you can format it properly rather than sending plain text.

Crucially, the global recipient list can be overridden per forum. If your pre-sales questions go to one person and your plugin bug reports go to another, you set that on each individual forum rather than routing everything to one inbox and sorting it manually.

Reply Email Notification covers follow-ups on existing tickets, with its own separate template. There’s also an option to have the follow-up notification checkbox ticked automatically, so customers stay subscribed to their own tickets by default instead of missing your reply.

All notification emails are sent as HTML, so your formatting survives.

Built for the long haul

This plugin has been in continuous development since 2014 and is currently on version 2.2.2. It’s tested for compatibility with WordPress 7.0 and modern PHP, and has been through a full PHPCS security audit with capability checks, nonce validation, and proper escaping and sanitisation throughout. Front-end icons are SVG rather than icon fonts, so there are no render-blocking font requests hurting your Lighthouse scores.

It requires bbPress 2.6.0 or later.

Make tickets findable

A ticket system is only as useful as your ability to find what’s already in it. Once you have a few hundred resolved tickets, they become a searchable knowledge base — but only if your search actually works. bbPress default search is basic, so if you’re running a busy support forum it’s worth pairing this plugin with bbPress Search, which adds predictive search across your forums and lets customers find an existing answer before they open a new ticket.

Installation

Install from your a3 Dashboard, activate, and a Support Forum item appears in your WordPress admin menu with three tabs: Settings, Ticket Status and Emails. Configure your states first — the Ticket State Default dropdown populates from what you define there. Full setup details are in the bbPress Support Forum documentation.
