Improves site usability - increases sales
May 4, 2013 - Really Liked It
The WP-Ecommerce search function is poor at best.

Improving the user experience by making your site easier to navigate increases sales online - that's a fact.

This plugin does exactly that - it's easy to install and even easier to use!

The live search is super fast and very configurable!

If you're selling online - this plugin is a must!

Get it down and I am sure you will agree!

Must Have Wp-Ecommerce Plug in - Make it easy for customers to navigate your site
April 23, 2013 - Really Liked It
So Glad I found this site - another fantastic plugin that helps increase conversions by making it easy for potential customers to navigate our site and purchase quickly and easily resulting in more conversions.

We already had Gold Cart - this live search kills it!

Faster, more appealing, customisable, works with yoast seo plugin for more accurate results - it's awesome!

We know from experience - make it easy for the customer and they buy...

It will lower bounce rates from frustrated customers (better for SEO) and sales results!

Get it - you wont regret it... it's pay itself off real fast!

Just Buy it

Frank

P.S. Steve, Keep up the great work!

Searching for the best search plugin for WP e-commerce? Look no further than WPEC Predictive Search!
October 16, 2012 - Really Liked It
Thanks for your excellent search plugin for WP-ecommerce - it is the perfect replacement for the default wordpress search and easily better than the live search offered by the Gold Cart Plugin for WP ecommerce.

If anyone is looking for the best search plugin for wp-ecommerce this is it - best option for replacing default Wordpress search by far. I've tried the Gold Cart Plugin from the WP e-commerce developers and unless you desperately need the extra payment gateways this is the plugin you are looking for!

Fully configurable, nicely formatted live search and search results page. Very quick, responsive live search function (predictive search as you type). Widget is ready to use or you can easily integrate it with your Wordpress theme. Amazing support just tops it off. Thanks again!

Help

  1. Courtney Knies says:

I purchased the Predictive Search Pro but can’t seem to upload it on the site. When I download, it isn’t in a zip file.

    • Steve Truman says:

      Hi Courtney,

When you click the download plugin button on your My Account > Dashboard it downloads the zip file of the plugin from Amazon Cloud – save it to your computer and then use the WordPress plugin uploader to upload it. That is the way it works. The plugin only comes in a zip file – nothing else? So I am wondering why that is not happening for you? Is you computer set to un zip files as it downloads them?

  2. Laura says:

I’m trying to activate the Lite plugin, and while I can see a search box, it will not “find” anything on my site. Nor is there an option under Settings called “Store”. What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks!

  3. Ben says:

    Hi

I’m using WP E-Commerce 3.8.8.5 with version 2.0.1 of your plugin on WordPress 3.3.2. I’m just trying the free version at the moment. I use the following code in my header.php but I can’t see a search box showing up?

    Thanks.

    • Steve Truman says:

      Hello Ben,

The Search function feature is a Pro Version feature. The Lite version only supports the Widgeted Search for Product by name. Upgrading to the Pro version activates placing the search box by the Search Function and Shortcode.

Upgrading also activated these search filters.

      * Product SKU
      * Product Categories
      * Product tag
      * Post titles
      * Page titles.
      * Predictive Search Focus Keywords.
      * Focus Keywords from SEO plugins.
      * Smart Search function.

On the plugins dashboard you will see all of the Pro version features inside of the Yellow border – Upgrading activates all of those. Thank you.

  4. Daniel says:

Hi, I think after 3 attempts I finally have the right place, The problem I am having is I am unable to filter the search/search in general for the product tags and categories only by name at the moment, the Filter results by text appears but with no links/drop downs to filter the search, what could be done to fix this?

    • Steve Truman says:

      Hi Daniel,

Yes well done. Let me first explain a little how WP e-Commerce predictive Search works. This is important to know because it is completely relevant to your question.

      Background
The Predictive Search feature we have built is a variant of what is know in computing language as incremental search. Other variants are Autocomplete, search as you type, filter/find as you type (FAYT), typeahead search, inline search, instant search, word wheeling and Googles Instant Search.

      Search Filters
One thing all variants have in common is filters to deliver relevant results for the application they are created for. The filters used are many and varied but all are designed to do the same thing – filter the search terms to deliver meaningful and relevant results.

      Predictive Search Primary Filters
The primary filters that we use are the WordPress taxonomies for many reasons but without going into them – relevance to the WP e-Commerce and WordPress ecosystem being the obvious. In practical terms that is Product Titles, Product SKU’s, Product Category Titles, Product tag Titles.

      Secondary Filters
As of version 2.0 in the Pro version we successfully introduced 2 new an incredibly powerful Filters ‘Predictive Search Focus keywords’ and ‘Focus Keywords’ set in SEO plugins like Yoast WordPress SEO and All in One SEO. This additional layer of filters allows the user optimize their site search with 100% accuracy.

      Optimizing Your Site Search
The Focus keyword filters allow you to optimize your site search any way you think is best for the way customers search your site. That is if you want a product to show each time a certain tag name is typed as well as the tag title in the drop down then you would add the tag name as a Focus Keyword.

      Smart Search Filter
Another feature of the plugin is the ‘Smart Search Filter’. This filter recognizes when a search is being conducted from a Product Category or Product Tag archive page and auto filters the search results to show relevant results from that category or tag first in the tag results.

Daniel I think if you use the built in features of the plugin combined with the Widgets, search function and shortcode search box placement that you will be able to set up and customize the most awesome search experience for your site users. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

      • Daniel says:

Hi Steve, I am aware of the additional features and the search filters, I don’t think my issue is a filter issue, where ‘Sort results by: (Product Name), (Product Category), (Product Tags)’ display’s I get ‘Sort results by:’ and no links to refine the search that should be there.

When typing in the search widget as well, Product name is the only thing it seems to pick up, it seems to be ignoring Product Category’s and Tags which is most unusual, especially since I have enabled the setting to display Category’s and Tags within search results.

I use this plugin on 2 other sites under a license in the clients name and the pro features work perfect, hence my confusion as to why I am having an issue now.

        -Thanks

        • Steve Truman says:

Daniel is this issue related to a Widget Serach Box our have you placed the Serach fubction in a none Widgeted area of the site. Which one are you having the issue with?

I ask because if it is the widget – can you please check that you have set a number of category and tags results to show in the widget drop down. remember you do that from the widget. From the Widget help text

Activate search ‘types’ for this widget by entering the number of results to show in the widget dropdown. = not activated. Sort order by drag and drop

If it is from the Search function you also must set a value for the numbers of results to show to activate that search filter > You do that from the Predictive Search admin panel > Search Function sub tab

          Customize Search Function values :

Can you please check you settings and let me know what you find. thank you.

          • Daniel says:

            Hi Steve,
Yes it’s a widget search, sorry, changing those settings did fix it, I can’t believe I missed that! That’s half the problem sorted, just one more, the search results page is still not able to display categories, is it possible for people to use this search ‘by category’ using the results page? I would also like to do the same with product tags.
            -Thanks

          • Steve Truman says:

Daniel – The All Results Search page only Creates a results page when there are more results than what you have configed to show in the drop down – this is explained in some detailed on the plugins wiki docs so I’ll just copy and paste it here.

            11. See More Results links to search pages: Tip: Any time that a search type has more results than are shown in the drop down a Link is created for that search type in the footer. For example if you have set Product Tags as a search type with 2 results to show in the drop down and there are only 2 results – the link in the footer does not show and no ‘All Search Results Page’ is created. So if your setting is to show 2 results for any search type and 1 Result is found and shows in the drop down = no link, no page, 2 results returned = 2 results in the drop down, no link in footer, and no all results search page is created, 3 results found – the 2 most relevant results show in the drop down and a link is created in the footer as the name of the search type and an ‘All Results Search Page’ is created.

As user search if they click the Search icon on the Search box or hit the enter key they are taken to the all results search pages that have been created for results of their search at that point.

            Hope that helps.

    • Steve Truman says:

      Hello Tee,

Yes I know what you mean – it is not malicious code, just a code in the license key used eval() and base64() – we have upgraded that in version 2.0 that was released last Friday. Please go to your a3rev dashboard http://a3rev.com/my-account/ and to the ‘Downloads’ tab. Download the latest version from the ‘Download Plugin’ button. Install and activate it. Run a Wordfence scan and you will see that issue is gone.

About Wordfence – I have the Pro Version here on the a3rev site and use it on all of our client sites. Thank you.

  7. Martijn Verschoor says:

    Hi there,

Is it possible to search my attributes? I bought it for thuis reason ;)

    Thanks, Martijn.

    • Steve Truman says:

      Hello Martijn,

You are correct in saying WP e-Commerce Predictive Search does use ‘Attributes’ (Variations) as a search ‘type’. It could search for variations but does because WP e-Commerce does not create a product page URL that can be shown in the search box results drop down or on the All results search pages it does not.

WP e-Commerce used to create a URL for each variation but that changed around version 3.8.

The good news however is that we have developed a very good work round. In WP e-Commerce Predictive Search Version 2.0 which is due out by the weekend we will be launching the ‘Predictive Search ‘Focus keywords’ feature. We launched it in the WooCommerce version about 4 weeks ago and it has made that plugin our number 1 seller by a country mile. It means you can use ‘Focus keywords’ on any product, post or page to have that content shown in the results when users start to type that keyword into the search box.

Here is how that would work in the case of WP e-commerce variations:

Say you have a Product called ‘Black Cat’ – whenever a user types ‘Black Cat ‘ this product will show in the drop down. Now lets say that product ‘Black cat’ has 3 variations White Cat, Big Cat and Cat mat. You would enter those names into the Predictive Search focus keywords meta on the ‘Black Cats’ product page editor. Then whenever a user types any of those variation names the main product ‘Black cats’ will show in the results. The user clicks on the Product and then selects the variation. That is as good as it can be with WP e-Commerce Variations – again because they create no URL that can be shown in search results.

Interestingly another request we have had re variations or SKU’s is customer misspelling of SKU’s – the buyer asked for a way to show the product when his clients used SKU numbers without the letter prefix. example – 1234 instead of BC1234. Predictive search Keywords solved the issue for the plugin buyer.

Hope all of that helps you a bit. Thank you.

    Hi,

Great plugin! one question – is there a way to display “all products”?

    Thanks

    **Ann

    • admin says:

      Hello Ann

Thanks – I’m not sure what you mean by display ‘all products” ?

Can you explain that a little more please.

      • Ann Case says:

Let’s say someone just wants a list of all the products in the database…like [productspage] wpecommerce shortcode. Some searches when you leave it blank and click search it returns ‘all’ I note this one doesn’t do that – is there a way to make that possible?

  9. Zackery says:

  10. Kara says:

We are working on a wordpress site where we are using woocommerce to show items as a catalog.

We need a search filter that can sort by Brand (which we need to say Manufacturer), Category, and Product.

Would this search filter of yours be configurable to such a need?

    • admin says:

      Hello Kara,

This pre-purchase question is about WooCommerce Predictive Search not WP e-Commerce Predictive Search – You will see all the features of WooCommerce Predictive Search listed on that plugins marketplace page. Plus you can read about the latest Major Feature Upgrade here on the blog. WooCommerce Predictive Search v2.0 Is Coming It explains the ‘Predictive Search Focus keywords’ feature we have added to handle the many and varied search requests like yours that we have been getting.

BTW – we will be updating this WP e-Commerce Predictive Search with that feature and others later next week.

  11. Patrick says:

    Hello,

I’m having some troubles I’m hoping you can help me fix. I’ll try to explain it the best I can. What happens is, I start typing a keyword in the predictive search and it pulls up some results. Picture for reference: http://oi47.tinypic.com/9fpt37.jpg Now, let’s say I click “See more results for baker” it will take me to what I want, the url is: https://foxrivercycle.com/ecommerce-search/?rs=baker.

Now here’s where I have trouble. If I type in the search box quickly; not allowing predictive search to pull up results, and hit enter it takes me to: https://foxrivercycle.com/?rs=baker. Which isn’t displaying any results, it’s just my front page. I’m not sure where I would make the edit to add /ecommerce-search/ that would make it work properly. Here is a link to my header.php for reference: http://oi45.tinypic.com/a5hp1t.jpg

Thanks in advance for any help,
    Patrick

      Hello Pauline,

Just looked at the link you sent – you have something weird in your site config – See this inner page of the site – the search function is working fine http://globalbeat.intermedia.com.au/primitive-store/ – although you have some work to do on the positioning of the function.

In your config you need to sort out what the diff is between the home page and the inner page – which is weird because you have the function in the header. It looks like a you might have 2 WordPress installs – but cannot tell from just looking at it.

      • pauline@intermedia.com.au says:

I’m afraid it’s not working for me at: http://globalbeat.intermedia.com.au/primitive-store/ either.

How can I determine whether I have 2 WordPress installs or not ?

        • admin says:

Wow Pauline – you have a serious problem with your config

See this screen shot of what I’m seeing on that page now http://cl.ly/image/2C0U090v1O1J

Here is the warning notices – I think you need to sort this and then the plugin might have a chance to work for you.

            Pauline,

Lets establish first is the widget working – please install the Predictive search widget in a sidebar and see if it is working – please do that and post a link.

          • pauline@intermedia.com.au says:

It seems to be working in the sidebar here: http://globalbeat.intermedia.com.au/primitive/

This is the code snippet I’m using in the header:

            add_action( ‘woo_header_inside’, ‘predictiveSearch’, 1 );

            function predictiveSearch(){

            if(function_exists(‘woo_predictive_search_widget’)) woo_predictive_search_widget();

            }

          • admin says:

            Hi Pauline,

Ok so we have established that the plugins is working … now

That is not the WooCommerce Predictive Search function – please refer to the plugins wiki – it has detailed instructions on how to insert the function – See Section # 14Putting Predictive Search into your sites header and Section #15Editing the Header.php file. Thank you.

          • pauline@intermedia.com.au says:

I re-entered the code as you described, which is an exact replica of what I had done with the code snippet, but embedded it directly into the header.php file.

The searchbox is still not working! Can you tell me what the issue is now please ? Autocomplete is still turned off.

          • admin says:

            Hello Pauline,

I can’t tell from the front end why that is not working for you, the function works just fine if configured properly – as you own an Unlimited license – if you send me wp-admin and ftp access creds I’ll log in and sort it for you. Please set those up and email me the creds. – I think you have the email address?

          • pauline@intermedia.com.au says:

No. Do you mind giving me the email address please ?

          • admin says:

Hi Pauline – sent you an email just now.

          • admin says:

            Hi Pauline,

Had a look and the function is fine – the problem is that you have errors is your theme styling that need to be fixed – see on the theme that has had the style edited that cannot click on the Logout | My Account | Checkout, links – with or without our function. See the WooCommerce Predictive Search function here on the Canvass theme without edits it works just fine.

Sorry but our Pro License support does not extend to fixing theme code hacks.
So please get whoever did that customization of the Canvas Theme style sheets to fix their code.

    1) I use a plugin to make page content layout easier to design. The plugin uses shortcodes to create div boxes and content sections. When I use the non pro version of Predictive Search, the results page shows the shortcodes and not the content within the shortcodes. Can Predictive Search be made to execute shortcodes?

    2) Does the pro version let us change the text shown inside the search box to (for example) “Search” or “Search store”?

    3) Does the pro version let us change the shape of image thumbnails shown in the search page?

I like the plugin but I can’t use it until shortcodes in search results execute.

    Thank you.

      Hello Lee,

      Re your questions:

When I use the non pro version of Predictive Search, the results page shows the shortcodes and not the content within the shortcodes. Can Predictive Search be made to execute shortcodes?

What if the shortcode at the top of the page is a contact form or an image gallery or form – Imagine if that shortcode activated in the search descriptions – what a mess that would be.

      2) Does the pro version let us change the text shown inside the search box to (for example) “Search” or “Search store”?

Not yet but will be soon – Right now we are finishing a very big Feature upgrade of Predictive search – we expect to launch that in the WooCommerce version tomorrow – We are currently updating all of our WooCommerce plugins for the big WooCommerce Version 2.0 release next Monday – but after that is out of the way we be updating the WP e-Commerce Predictive Search Plugins with the new features set. Read about those new feature sets that are coming here on the a3rev blog.

      3) Does the pro version let us change the shape of image thumbnails shown in the search page?

By shape I guess you mean size. Yes that is in the v2.0 upgrade.

      • Lee Hodson says:

Hi, thank you for your reply.

By thumbnail shape I meant that my thumbnails were displaying as ovals. I think I know why that was/is: my theme has a function in it that forces some images to display as ovals; thought I’d removed it but there’s obviously a trace of it still there.

About shortcode nesting, you could filter for specific shortcodes ahead of do_shortcode() to make sure specified shortcodes are not displayed i.e add a text field in the plugin options where admins can specify shortcodes to remove from the search page such that none specified shortcodes are executed but specified shortcodes are removed completely or left to display but unexecuted. You’d need to allow admins to specify whether the shortcode has a closing tag or not.

Read the blog post about version 2. It looks good. I found the search field’s styles for V1 in the Javascript file so was able to edit the color of the box and text. V2 will let me style the box from the backend so that’s another plus.

Before I buy, will the current version naturally upgrade to version 2 or is version 2 being sold separately? Have to ask because I’ve been caught out with other vendors in the past and I’m not being suckered again, lol.

Thank you very much for your help.

        • admin says:

          Hello Lee,

          I’m not being suckered again

I have just lost interest in answering your pre purcahse questions.

We offer a Free Lite version of the plugin, which 1,000′s of people use without ever upgrading to the PRO version – For those who do purchase a License we give a 60 days no questions asked money back guarantee (WP e-Commerce and most developers give none, WooCommerce give 30 days) – Priority same day support and Lifetime Free upgrades.

You have our Free lite version of the plugin – please enjoy it or delete.

          • Lee Hodson says:

Then we will wait for version 2 to be released before I make a purchase.

We have purchased from you before and were very happy with the service received hence our willingness to buy from you again. Thank you very much for settling our pre sales jitters.

          • admin says:

            Hi Lee,

Now that is a concern – you are an existing a3rev Pro license holder and you still are ‘jittery‘ about our plugins and feel we are trying to ‘sucker‘ you. Lee we are a young company who is working hard as we can to build a reputation as a supplier of top quality plugins with first class support so as the founder and team leader @ a3rev I take this really seriously, that is why I do the support myself. What ever did we do to make you feel like that?

          • Lee Hodson says:

A little bit of miscomunication there. I said I’d been caught out before by other plugin developers not that I thought you would do the same. What I was getting at is that some developers provide ‘free lifetime upgrades’ until they rewrite and release major code revisions e.g from v1 to v2. I was checking that you were not going to do that. I didn’t mean it personally and I apologize I was taken the wrong way.

          • admin says:

            Hi Lee,

Thank you for clarifying that and no I didn’t take it personally, not at all. Many people (me included) read a support forum and reviews before they make a purchasing decision. To a person doing that on here they could take you comment as meaning you were thinking that of us – so it is important to our business that I clarify that with you as we have done and I thank you.

Many devs would be horrified by the idea of having a support forum visible to the public on the sales page – I actually think it is very important for people to be able to see it. I don’t edit users posts and don’t remove them – its all about transparency and building trust. Hope that explains my responses to your comments.

          • Lee Hodson says:

            You’re welcome and thank you.

The other plugin we bought from you is WP e-Commerce Dynamic Gallery Pro. It works great. We’re very pleased with it. We’re looking at another plugin you sell – WPEC Wholesale Pricing, Views, Access.

We were using Magento for eCommerce (or, when a less feature packed option was required, MarketPress) but WP e-Commerce has come on a long way and your plugins help boost WP e-Commerce just that little bit more to make it a pretty close approximation to the features offered by Magento. WordPress + WP e-Commerce + a few extra plugins make a very good, easy to use eCommerce platform.

Will you offer plugin bundles at a future date?

          • Lee Hodson says:

I’ve just purchased Predictive Search Pro, by the way. Thanks Steve.

          • admin says:

Thanks Lee – Just releasing the WooCommerce Pro version on here and the lite Version on WordPress now – it is massive feature upgrade – here is the Pro Version Changelog. Normally we would roll right into to adding those features to WP e-Commerce Version (or visa Versa) but with the new WooCommerce V2.0 release on Monday we have to upgrade the rest of our WooCommerce plugins plus before then.

So the WP e-commerce Predictive Search plugin will be upgraded late next week – and like the Woo version you have done well getting in now because there will be a price increase following the upgrade. We are also trying to finish setting up a Campaign Monitor database of Pro license holders so we can email and warn of the intending price rise so all plugin license holders who are thinking of upgrading the license can do so before the price rise.

About Bundled licenses – yes that is on the future agenda – we just have to build that feature into our license manager plugin at some stage.

Interesting in our client work we used to build Magento also but a bit like you we now only do e-commerce site in our client dev work with using WordPress with either WP e-Commerce or WooCommerce.

          • Lee Hodson says:

Magento is not the easiest platform for clients to use so we prefer to use a WP option where possible. Magento themes are pretty stylish, though. If I couldn’t build my own stylish themes for WPeC I’d have to use Magento.

I look forward to the new release. I’m about to write a new blog post about eCommerce. I’ll link back to a3rev and let people know to get in now if they want Predictive Search Pro (before the price hike).

          • admin says:

            Hello Lee,

Thank you – please post a link here to your blog post when you publish it. Thank you.

How do i get the Product SKU Search Results to show with Product Name Results on the Search Page? also the pages description show shortcodes.

    Other then that, Great Plugin!!!

    • admin says:

      Thank you –

Can you give me a link to show me what you mean by the pages descriptions show shortcodes.

      • eScius says:

If you got to http://efmco.com/ and search “contact” you will see the shortcodes in the predictive search.

also if you type “860″ and hit search the search results will be blank but a link to show more results by Product SKU is available, would be best if those results were displayed with the product name results like in the widget.

      • eScius says:

        Any Luck with this?

        • admin says:

          Hello eScius,

It would appear that it is only your contact us page that shows the shortcode in the search results description in the search box dropdown. It does this because that is all that is on the Contact Us page – the shortcode. This is the only time this would ever happen is if there is no description just a shortcode – how many other pages or posts or product pages would this apply to on your site?

The plugin does not support the ability to be able to show search results as mixed pages of results. Each search type generates its own search results page – that is if there are sufficient results to generate a Results search page (there must be more results than what show in the search box drop down to generate a search results page). Thank you.

          • eScius says:

You are correct about the contact us page, it is showing the code inside tag.

As for the mixed page results, i put a temporary fix in your plugins, so if it does not fin a product name, it looks for a product sku and shows those results. you should probably do this as well, make it a ladder effect, if no product name check sku, if no sku, check tag, not ag, check page….

          • eScius says:

\ tag is what i meant above

Great Plugin! super easy to use. Just have a few questions.

How do i get the SKU number to display in the searchbox dropdown under the product name, when searching using product name. Also if a page result is shown in the searchbox and there is a shortcode on that page, that shortcode is displayed instead of any text, can this be fixed?

  18. brad says:

    Hello,

I am building an ecommerce site and am using your wpec predictive search lite plugin. I love the plugin first off, but I have a standard search for the blog part of the site and then use the predictive search for products alone.

Is it possible to use both searches? It seems to work well until I search a non-matched term and then it brings up a black (eccomerce search) page. I see it says to replace the search functions in the header.

    Thanks in advance,

      the answer is the same.

Why are you trying to install WP e-Commerce Predictive Search if you are not using WP e-Commerce as your e-Commerce platform?

    • Steve Truman says:

      Hello Brad,

Yes no problem to use both – there is no known conflict with WordPress Search – If you want to replace the other search function you can with the WP e-Commerce Predictive Search Function – but not with the Free Lite Version – only the Pro Does that. There are detailed instructions on the plugins wiki on how to do that

    Hi

Works with WP multi-site? I wanted to install it on the main site, and I wanted to get search result from all sites, is it possible?

    Excuse my ignorance.

    Best regards

    • Steve Truman says:

      Hello Dario,

No it only returns results for the domain that it is installed on because each of your multi sites site has a seperate table for example,

main site has table name wp_posts
child site 1 has table name wp1_posts
child site 2 has table name wp2_posts

Can’t get results get from different tables – only wp_posts.

  20. Gergo Tolnai says:

hi! just purchassed the predictive serch pro, but i cant enter my auth key, because it say i dont have the permitions to see the activation page…

    what to do?

    • Steve Truman says:

      Hello Gergo,

If when you try to Activate the plugin or add the Authorization key you get a white page with something like
” You do not have permission to access this page”

Its a message generated by WordPress because you do not have the WP e-Commerce plugin either installed or if it is it is not activated. WP e-Commerce Predictive Search is a child plugin of WP e-Commerce and cannot activate with the parent plugin being activated. When you do try you get that “access permission denied” message.

So please check on your install that WP e-Commerce is activated – then try again.

Just purchased and downloaded the Predictive Search Pro version and when I click the “Authorization Key” link on my plug-ins page I get the following message:

“You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page” – Why?

At this point – all I have received was the Unique Session ID key to download the zip file.

    • Steve Truman says:

      Hi Matt,

Have checked the API and Paypal registry and cannot find any purchase of the WP e-Commerce Predictive Search Pro license plugin under the name or email address that you have used to make this comment. Which is strange seeing as you said you just brought it?

From your comment you obviously have purchased it and have the plugin installed – the reason you get that message which is generated by WordPress is because you do not have the WP e-Commerce plugin installed and activated. WP e-Commerce Predictive Search is a child plugin of the WP e-Commerce plugin and cannot activate without it being first activated on your site.

    Hello,

I’ve just bought the pro version of the predictive search and i’m very happy to see a beautiful working livesearch for my shop. But i have one problem: the thumbnails in the search results are often placeholders even though the product image is available. I’ve already rebuild the thumbnails with the “AJAX Thumbnail Rebuild”-Plugin but it doesn’t solve the problem. Do you have an idea how to solve my problem?

    Thanks!

    • Steve Truman says:

      Hello haduseldu,

WP e-Commerce Predictive search is coded to look first for the products feature image and if no image is feature then the first image uploaded. If the product has no images it a no image place holder.

I will send you an email to get wp-admin and ftp details so we can log in and see what is blocking the images – it could well be another plugin – first I ask that you remove your hack or reinstall the original plugin. We don’t work on our plugins that have been hacked because often it takes much time to first sort out get rid if the hack to just get back to the original code. Our plugins are coded to the WordPress and WP e-Commerce codex and also long as every one else (themes and plugin developers) do the same everything works just fine.

Thanks and I’ll email you shortly.

  30. Jason says:

Hi is there a way I can get my money back?

We’ve purchased and installed the predictive search a few days back.

However the UI are horrible, when I enter some keywords it got huge delay, when you didn’t click any result in the drop down display and simply press enter, nothing happened (the dorp-down result disappeared). You have to press enter again to start a search.
If you press enter too quick it would return you a black search result page.

This could be very confusing to our customers.

Also the search results are very inaccurate, I searched a keyword combination when there are over 10 relevant products (with these keywords in product name / title! ), but it only got me one single result.

And it doesn’t seen to be able to do full-context search for product descriptions, when I searched a product model – which was exactly a part of product descriptions – it returned me no result, both Google site search and the build-in WP search will return me the unique product page.

Thus I would like to request a refund for this product could not perform the basic search for products.

I’d like to know how is the procedure that I can get it refunded.

I’m looking forward to hearing from you soon.

    Kind Regards,
    Jason

    • Steve Truman says:

      Hi Jason

I would have done the refund for you right now but there is no WP e-commerce Predictive Search plugin Pro License registered under your name or the email address you have used to post this? I’ll send you and email and you send me back a copy of the purchase receipt.

To address your critique of the plugin?

However the UI are horrible, when I enter some keywords it got huge delay,

Apparently you want predictive search to work like old keyword search, where you type a whole keyword phrase and then click enter – even google search does not work like that anymore.

According to Google’s announcement about Instant Search:

Our key technical insight was that people type slowly, but read quickly, typically taking 300 milliseconds between keystrokes, but only 30 milliseconds (a tenth of the time!) to glance at another part of the page. This means that you can scan a results page while you type.

Watch this video and it explains why google moved to predictive or instant search 2 years ago.

Predictive search starts querying your entire database as you type each letter – and delivering results based on each letter typed. So you type the letter ‘a’ and if you have it configured Predictive Search to search Products names, Categories tags, post pages it does an entire database search and starts delivering results – if you speed type a whole string of search terms then it must search that entire sequence – if you have a large database of course this will take time – if you are not actually trying to find something as a customer might in other words type and look at the results being served in the dropdown of course you can force the search to take a long time.

when you didn’t click any result in the drop down display and simply press enter, nothing happened (the dorp-down result disappeared). You have to press enter again to start a search. If you press enter too quick it would return you a black search result page.

If you press enter the plugin does exactly what google does and returns a page full of results. What do you want it to do? You say nothing happens – but then say you get a blank search results page ? It actually opens the all search results page showing all results-

Also the search results are very inaccurate, I searched a keyword combination when there are over 10 relevant products (with these keywords in product name / title! ), but it only got me one single result.

Again – its Predictive search not old keyword search – results are delivered to users in a constantly changing drop down menu – which they take time to review – the search gets more refined as whole words are formed and the search is refined by ‘Smart Search’ if you have that activated.

And it doesn’t seen to be able to do full-context search for product descriptions, when I searched a product model – which was exactly a part of product descriptions – it returned me no result, both Google site search and the build-in WP search will return me the unique product page.

Yes you are correct it does not search content as google site search and WordPress Search do. Is WP e-Commerce Predictive search as accurate as google site search? Probably not – Is it a fair to expect it to be? Google have been in the business a long time and have billions of dollars of revenue each year and 1,000′s of engineers working on ‘search’. Is it as accurate as the native WordPress search – without a doubt yes.

As I said at the beginning – happy to refund your purchase as soon as we can establish who to refund the money to.

    • Steve Truman says:

Hi Jason – I did email you and have not heard back from you yet. I did take a look at your site where you have the plugin installed.

Your subdomain site is very slow to load – but I can see why you think the plugin does not work – it won’t load search results at all for me and on the All results search page the ajax endless search will not load – Its seems to be some problem with your server blocking ajax – I’ve never seen that before and would be very interested to know how and why that is happening, if for no other reason than to know if its something we need to update in the plugin code or to help other users who have a similar server environ.

If you take a look at this site – Another Australian site that we host on our Australian Cloud you will see how the plugin works normally.

By the way I found where you purchased the plugin but have not processed the Refund Yet as you still have the plugin installed and I am very curious to know what is blocking the ajax on your server. Would like to take a closer look – anyway if you are not interested in that please just let me know and I’ll do the refund straight away and cancel the License. Thanks

      • Jason says:

        Hi Steve,

I was off site, just saw your reply.
Thanks very much for your very specific explanations.

Sorry if the previous email came across as blaming, I was pissed off when I found it couldn’t get me all the results I wanted, I’m under very high pressure these days due to work schedule.

The predictive search is actually very good as a great presentation. I like how it works.

The server was low on memory so it appeared to be slow, I moved whole site to another one with decent memory so it seemed to get the slow ajax problem fixed.

Thanks very much for your help, your customer services are prompt and exceptional.

If I ever have any further questions I will definitely need your support again.

        Have a nice day!

        Cheers,
        Jason

        • Steve Truman says:

Thanks for getting back to me. Glad that its sorted for you. Seeing as we are both in the same part of the world I did try and find a number to call you but had no luck. I’m pleased that its come together for you. Don’t hesitate to contact me again if you need any help with the Predictive Search plugin and good luck with your site. Cheers.

  31. Hi,
Yesterday afternoon I bought a “wp-e-commerce-products-predictive-search-pro” plugin for my daughter’s WordPress (ventes.danzquebec.com) eCommerce. After uploading the plugin and trying to enter the Authorization Key, I received a message saying that “You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page”.

I’m administrator user of this site, and I don’t understand why I can’t. I’m working more efficiently on Joomla than WordPress, maybe you could help me to install your product.

I thank you anyway for your help.
    Have a good day

    • Steve Truman says:

      Hi Patrick,

Just checked the API and I don’t see that the plugin has been uploaded to a domain? I should be seeing the sub domain ventes.danzquebec.com if you have uploaded it to that sub domain.

On that sub domain can you please check the wp-admin panel > Plugins . installed Plugins page and confirm for me that you can see the 2 plugins installed there

      1. WP e-Commerce.
      2. WP e-Commerce Predictive Search Pro

Below is a cut down version of what you should be seeing – The WP e-Commerce Plugin installed and activated , The WP e-Commerrce Predictive Search Pro plugin with Authorization Key link. In the image where the Green plus is that shows that the WP e-Commerce Predictive Search Lite plugin is installed but deactivated which if you have had it installed it must be deactivated before you can install the Pro version.

      WP admin dashboard

If both plugins are installed – WP e-Commerce and WP e-Commerce Predictive Search Pro and WP e-Commerce is activated – then when you click on the Authorization key link you should be taken to this page to enter your Authorization Code.

      Authorization Code.

Can you check and confirm all of this is the case on the sub domain ventes.danzquebec.com

    • Steve Truman says:

      Hi Alex,

I see you have worked it out – thanks for letting me know. Our Pro plugins API requires Curl to be activated on the server. 99 times our of 100 Curl is automatically active on servers, but in the odd case where it isn’t you’ll get that warning message and need to activate Curl.

      Thanks.
